SUSANNE LINKE
In her work, Susanne brings toghether both the heritage of the expressionist German dance from the between-wars period and the contemporary German dance-theater. She has strongly influenced the choreographic scene in Germany.
Her dance formation started with Mary Wigman, in Berlin, before she went to the Folkwang School in Essen. From 1970 to 1973, she was a dancer at the Folkwang Dance Studio, under the artistic direction of Pina Bausch. In the same period, she already developed her own first choreographic pieces.
In a few years she received international acknowledgement due to her solos (such as Im Bade wannen, Schritte verfolgen, her version of the work of Dore Hoyer, Afectos humanos) and her ensemble pieces. She was granted many prizes for her pieces, with which she traveled throughout Europe, India, North and South America. For almost 10 years, up to the summer of 1985, Susanne Linke directed the Folkwang Dance Studio. Since then, she has also worked as an autonomous choreographer and is regularly invited by international companies to coreograph, such as the Limón Company in New York, the  GRCOP in the Paris Opera and the Netherlands Dance Theater.
In the beginning of the 90’s she founded the Company Susanne Linke and composed the pieces Ruhr-Ort and Märkische Landschaften. During this period, she became artist in residence at the Hebbel-Theater Berlin. With her partner Urs Dietrich as a co-director, she started a new company in 1994 at the Bremer Theater and toured the Asian Southeast and Central America with it.
She remained at the direction of Bremer Tanztheater until 2000. In the years 2000 and 2001, Susanne Linke was a founder-integrant of the Essen Choreographic Center, and was then designated artistic director there. In 2003, at the Essen Choreographic Center she created, the solo-duo Tanz-Dis-tanz together with Urs Dietrich, as well as rebuilding her solo Schritte verfolgen in 2007.
Since 2001 she is again an autonomous choreographer, working for the Paolo Grassi School in Mailand, the Kibbutz Dance Company in Israel, the Versiliadanza Florenz and the  Folkwang school in Essen.
In 2004 she originated her solo VISTItatiON. She also composed for the Paris Opera (2005), for the Limón Dance Company of New York (2004), for the Bonn Choreographic Theater(2007), for the Alto Theater Essen and for the Jeanne Ruddy Dance Company of Philadelphia (2008).

In 2007, Susanne Linke received the DEUTSCHE TANZPREIS in recognition for her merits in modern dance. In 2008, she was nominated by the French Culture Ministry “L’officier de l’orde pour les arts et des lettres”.

„Susanne Linke is a master of space and time. With a few elegant steps, with simple, but beautiful and well-finished gestures of her arms, she knows how to surprise onstage: that is her place.“ (Wiebke Hüster)
